Palazzo Tartagliozzi
Is a beautiful town centre property, a four hundred year-old historic building in Cermignano, seventeen miles (25km) from the Adriatic coast and 27 miles (40km) from ski resorts; a hilltop town 560m above sea level situated in the Abruzzo region of Italy renowned for its produce, its cuisine and its fine wines.
Palazzo Tartagliozzi is located on Via Roma, Cermignano’s main thoroughfare. It is a one-way street with a small town square and a terrace that overlooks the surrounding hills and mountains.
As you drive down Via Roma from the town hall and the square (there is parking space immediately outside), you will find the entrance on the right hand side, at number 21. It is a large carved wooden door with two Egyptian-style metal faces. To the left is a door to a store room / laundry; to the right there is round window, part of a bricked-up doorway that was once the entrance to the stables, which we have converted into the dining room/kitchen.
There are eight double bedrooms (one en suite and one with a bathtub in the bedroom itself), a twin room, a room sleeping four (three single beds plus a single sofa bed) and three double sofa beds in the lounges (for a total of 27 people or more). Cots are available too on request in advance.
The front door gives onto a large hallway with terracotta tiles and a vaulted ceiling; this leads to the staircase to the first floor and most of the living accommodation.
The landing at the top of the staircase has three doors:
- The one to the right leads to the patio / garden area and a corridor with a bedroom and a shower room. The terrace overlooks via Roma; it has a plunge pool, sofas and a table and chairs with a BBQ area.
- The middle door opens into a twin room that is also connected to a double room (they can also be independent and the double room can be accessed from another door too)
- The door on the left leads to a small kitchen and another double bedroom and also to a large sitting room with vaulted ceiling, containing sofas and chairs, books and games. The sitting room is connected to the main corridor and in turn to most of the bedrooms and the bathrooms.
Along the corridor:
- The first room is a bathroom, followed by another bathroom that has been carved out of the Palazzo’s former storeroom, where straw and snow were piled up together in the winter to keep food cool.
- Four further bedrooms. One, a double, is also carved out of the storeroom, with its own bathtub. Another has three single beds and enough space for a sofa bed(stored nearby). The third is a double bedroom and the last at the end of the corridor is a further double room, with en suite shower room.
Five of the eight bedrooms overlook Via Roma. The twin room overlooks the patio area. One of the double rooms has a small window that overlooks a stepped pavement outside and the room with bath has two very small windows. Two double bedrooms are located on the terrace overlooking the plunge pool.
Restoring the Palazzo has been an amazing experience. We have kept all original features, while adding modern features that complement the style and architecture of the building. Other parts of the building remain to be restored; we hope to complete this major project one day and share it with you.
